Low key. I guess some people still say "hole in the wall". I find that to be almost crude in describing small gems posing a solid restaurants
Fish Eight is the real deal. Basics: Fresh fish, dood service, simple. By far, this is one the best reasons to be in Hollywood. The sushi is delicious! The sushi burrito is A+. The service is impeccable. He menu is the "anti-fusion" sushi menu we all want. Not that fake ass Korean style sushi. (No offense to my Korean people, I love you all)
Traditional style Japanese sushi. You can't beat it.
Just my two cents. -

This place is bomb. Like, the atomic bomb. The ultimate. Yes I may be a little tipsy - they have a byob no corkage situation that gets all diners happy happy - but the food and service is that good. Here's a reduced list of what we had.
Truffle cod sushi - so soft and tender over vinegary rice
Fin sushi - i prefer this version over SUGARFISH, and other places where they do it raw; this had a charred salt flavor and the slight cooking took away some of the cheesiness
Super (?) chirashi - $24 might get you a few pieces at Nobu or blue ribbon; we really thought this fish quality was as good
Tuna crispy rice - can't go wrong
Baked crab hand roll - yum
Agadeshi tofu and miso soup were as you expect.
Server was super busy but I think genuinely lovely - made sure we had enough of everything; ice, ginger, water. He's super slim I'm guessing from the running around. I really should get a job serving at a wonderful restaurant like this to achieve my weight loss goals.

Do not go here. Cockroach came out during our dinner from under the couch and they did not seem to care. We still had to pay for our dinner (30% off) but still - when a cockroach comes out of the couch you shouldn't have to pay for your meal.

I honestly don't like to write negative reviews..but that's what Yelp is for!
Service was fantastic. Granted, we were the only 2 people in the restaurant [went around 7pm] so the waiter was very tentative and kind.
My friend and I ordered a bunch of sushi. I got the chef sushi combo. The instant it came out, it smelled rancid. NOT FISHY, BUT RANCID. I thought to myself, theres no way all of this fish could be bad. I ate my first piece [tuna belly] and it tasted EXACTLY how it smelled. RANCID. I immediately spit it into a napkin. After that, I smelled each fish before I took a bite...but I was honestly jaded at that point. After I informed the waiter, he simply said "oh sorry". At least comp the rancid fish you served maybe???
And that's all she wrote. Its pretty simple at a sushi restaurant. Serve fresh fish.
Won't ever come back here again.
